Rules & Regulations

Hey everyone,

I wanted to apologize for the delay. We had a problem with some of the rules but these are the final set. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Christine Paden at cep22@students.uwf.edu. Hope to see everyone on Thursday the 29th!

Basically, you have to have the pumpkin PRE-CARVED before you come to campus. Entrees will be disqualified and money will not be refunded if person shows up with any weapon, including carving utensils. Drop off is at 3:30 that day and it is five dollars per pumpkin. There is no limit to how many you enter and there is no restriction to the size. We do emphasize on the importance of originality and creativity. The more pumpkins you enter, the better of a chance you have of winning. When you enter, who ever is running the registration table, will take a piece of tape, put your contact information on the tape, and place the tape on the bottom of the pumpkin. The person running the registration table will not be a judge.

The judging will begin at 4:30 and will not exceed 5:30.
There will be five judges and they will score on a scale of 1-10, including half's. Each judge will go around to each pumpkin and judge it on relevance, originality, and impact. When the three winners are chosen, we will contact those who have won. If they are in the crowd when the winners are revealed, their picture will be taken and placed online.

Lunch-n-Learn September 24, 2009

Guest speaker, Jeff Pedigo, came to talk to the AAF-Pensacola chapter about Revolutionary Marketing. Here are some of the notes taken.

- Some memes survive while others die out
- language: words grammar
- business: procedures, equipment
- consumer culture: methods of payment, stores, products

- Brain is simply a meme's way of making copies of itself
- viral marketing- 1997 Hotmail's way to advertise a promotion for free email service
- memtric- ingrained, adapts easily to change, transcends easily.

A Diamond is Forever
- a diamond ring isn't always the norm for engagement rings
- it is today though, thanks to Debeer's campaign, "A Diamond is Forever"
- in Japan, there weren't any diamond imports until 1959 and they didn't use rings for marriage.
- When they brought the campaign to Japan, sales for diamond rings blasted out of the water.

- benefits- simplicity, believability, ensure survival, usefulness, repetition, increase the spreader's status, entertaining, emotionally engadging
- meme reinforces the rationale behind things we recommend clients (one idea per ad, etc.)

Evolutionary Marketing
- know when/where to yield
- more variations among messages
- demographics? no, memographics!
- a brand is a bunch of memes (meme complex)
- understanding memes help us understand our brand

Conclusion
- cultures evolve
- memes are cultural evolution
- memetic engineering is creation and dispersion of culture
